1 Corinthians 11:3-5(AMP) 3 But I want you to know and realize that Christ is the Head of every man, the head of a woman is her husband, and the Head of Christ is God. 4 Any man who prays or prophesies (teaches, refutes, reproves, admonishes, and comforts) with his head covered dishonors his Head (Christ). 5 And any woman who [publicly] prays or prophesies (teaches, refutes, reproves, admonishes, or comforts) when she is bareheaded dishonors her head (her husband); it is the same as [if her head were] shaved.
Most Christians do not know about spiritual authority or the order of God. We must have proper order for the Spirit and His power to operate and manifest in our lives. What the current church experiences is no different than what the church experienced during Apostle Paul's days. Man has the same sin nature and we tend to make the same mistake over and over again.
Most of the church is out of order because the homes are out of order. The problems of the Corinthian church is very similar to what the western church is facing. Whether the homes of the congregation or the homes of the pastors, proper spiritual order must be established so that the church can move forward.
The context of 1 Corinthians chapter 11, verses 3-5, refers to spiritual authority in the household. We must realize during biblical times, they refer to females as either virgins, women, or widows. In those days, unlike today in modern time, most of the women were married. When we see the term "women" used, they are in most part referring to married wives. In the bible, when it comes to spiritual authority and women, the bible is not preventing the women from having spiritual authority nor is the bible preventing them from preaching or teaching. The bible is referring to the disobedient wives whose houses are out of order. Today, many households are out of order as the wives are in control under some degree of the Jezebel spirit. This is not to blame the wives nor to pinpoint and judge anyone. This is to reveal the problem so that we may align ourselves with the Holy Spirit in proper order so that HIS power and love may flow through the families. When His power and love flows, there will be evidence and manifestion of spiritual and financial blessings. Today, many Christians can profess a lot of slogans or scripture verses but when we look at the core of their lives, they are in choas, war, sickness, poverty, and confusion. What they profess does not manifest into the physical realm.
Apostle Paul is reminding the Corinthian church of the proper order that the head of every man is Christ and the head of every women is their husbands. Depending on the translation, most English translation uses the words the "women" and "men" rather than the proper context of wives and husbands. The Head of Christ is God. Christ and God are not separated but they are One. Therefore, in the context of women and men, the reference is of one which is husband and wives. If the Head of Christ is God, is Christ any lessor than God? No, they are equal in everything. But for proper spiritual order, Christ submitted to God.
Phil 2:5-7 You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. 6 Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. 7 Instead, he gave up his divine privileges, he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, 8 he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross.
Let us look at verse 4 "Any man who prays or prophesies (teaches, refutes, reproves, admonishes, and comforts) with his head covered dishonors his Head (Christ)."
Any man who prays or prophesis with his head covered dishonors His Head, Christ. Does this mean if he wears a hat? The context of covering or covered is about spiritual authority. In his household, if the wife is the spiritual authority, then the man or husband who ministers is out of order and thus dishonors the House of God. Even if the husband is not in ministry but whose ministry is his family is out of order. When we are out of order, we will encounter a block in our lives. We become stuck spiritually and physically unable to capitalize on our blessings. In households where the wives dominate with a Jezebel spirit, the husbands are living in la la land. The husbands may live in fear of stirring up their wives thus they give in to all their demands. The husbands live a complacent passive life. Such people must discern their lives and realize nothing is working in their lives because they are out of order.
Although, the bible commands the wives to submit to their husbands, this does not mean the wives are secondary citizens or of any lower class. In fact, the wives are co workers and co heirs in the inheritance of salvation. The wives play a very important role to the husbands. The wives are our helper, they are our encouragers, they are motivators, and so on. The wive are there to give us counsel, assistance, guidance, and so on and the husband is the final authority. Just like in the corporate world or the military, there must be proper order for the organizations to function. In the military, the people in themselves are equal citizens when not in uniform but in uniform, they have rank and order so that they may function properly.
In verse 5, "And any woman who [publicly] prays or prophesies (teaches, refutes, reproves, admonishes, or comforts) when she is bareheaded dishonors her head (her husband); it is the same as [if her head were] shaved."
If the household is out of order and if the wife is dominating the household through the Jezebel spirit, and if she attempt to minister, she is considered bareheaded and dishonors her head or husband. Spiritually, it is a very shameful act as if she was literally bareheaded.
Whether you are wives or husbands, many of you have told God that you would die for HIM or would do anything for HIM. If that was the case, then first learn to submit to God by submitting to your husbands. What do I mean by submit? To submit is to respect, honor, encourage, and serve them. Wives need to stop looking down on their heads (husbands). When it comes to the subject of Jesus, you do not have to submit if he tells you to stop going to church or if he tells you to stop reading the bible or to pray. You do not have to submit to these but in all trival and household issues, you should submit to your husbands. Your submission with a pure heart will change them.
1 Peter 3:1-2 (AMP) In like manner, you married women, be submissive to your own husbands [subordinate yourselves as being secondary to and dependent on them, and adapt yourselves to them], so that even if any do not obey the Word [of God], they may be won over not by discussion but by the [godly] lives of their wives, 2 When they observe the pure and modest way in which you conduct yourselves, together with your [a]reverence [for your husband; you are to feel for him all that reverence includes: to respect, defer to, revere him—to honor, esteem, appreciate, prize, and, in the human sense, to adore him, that is, to admire, praise, be devoted to, deeply love, and enjoy your husband].
