“And He
called the people to Him and said to them, "Hear and understand: 11 it
is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person, but what comes
out of the mouth; this defiles a person." “..what comes out of the mouth
proceeds from the heart, and this defiles a person. 19 For out of the
heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft,
false witness, slander. 20 These are what defile a person.” Matthew 15:
10-11, 18-20.
The Pharisees saw some of the disciples eating bread without washing their hands and they asked Jesus about this. They thought that it was a sin not to wash your hands or your utensils. Jesus said that it is not what goes into our mouth that defiles us but what comes out of our mouth. Defile means to make unclean or destroy. Those words that we say, or what is in our mind, the bad thoughts that we have are the things that destroys us.
There are some people who abhor the poor on the streets and they didn’t want them to come near them because they are smelly. And then some will curse or say bad words to them. I have remembered Daddy God told me that those people who curse or who say bad things to others were the smelly ones. And for Him, they are a stink in His nostrils.
“The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the LORD, but gracious words are pure.” Proverbs 15:26
Many of us are unaware of it. Many people just say what they wanted to say. They are lying, cursing and saying bad words or dirty jokes as if it is nothing. They are slandering and talking behind the backs of others. Many people were used to it and it became part of their personality. Those careless, evil words that we speak are destroying our soul. What proceeds out of our mouth defiles us. A mouth full of foul words, harsh words, and unkind words defiles us. Those evil words come out from our hearts and are proof that our hearts are also evil.
“How can you speak good, when you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. 35 The good person out of his good treasure brings forth good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure brings forth evil. 36 I tell you, on the Day of Judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, 37 for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned." Matthew 12:34-37
Daddy God told me that we must be careful not to join on idle talks and gossips for it bring forth no good. It will destroy our souls. It is better for us to keep silent if we don’t have anything good to say. We, Christians should speak blessings and not curse. Daddy God will bless those who blesses. And cursed be to those who curse. No matter how people talk evil things to us, we must not repay it with evil. We must bless them and pray for them. If we forgive and pray for them instead of repaying their evil deeds with evil, Daddy God will turn their curses into blessings for us. God will bless us more.
On the Day of Judgment, we will all give account for every careless word we speak. Words once spoken can never be taken back. We must not let our mouth lead us to sin. We must not let our mouths destroy our soul. We must ask God to clean our hearts for out of our hearts come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander.
“But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth.” Colossians 3:8
“Keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking deceit. 14 Turn away from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.” Psalm 34:13-14
“And the tongue is a fire, a world of unrighteousness. The tongue is set among our members, staining the whole body, setting on fire the entire course of life, and set on fire by hell.” James 3:6
