Sell and give all to the poor?

If you truly want to follow Jesus with a full and surrendered heart, you may have to lose everything. Are you willing to give up or lose everything? Many of us can say and believe this with the mind but having to manifest in our lives can be another matter. When we experience difficult tribulations whether God is disciplining or testing us, how do we generally pray when we go through pain?

If we
are losing our homes or business encountering difficult situations, how do many pray? Many pray asking God to rescue them. Many ask others to intercede on their behalf hoping for some kind of breakthrough.

How many of us when we are experiencing such painful trials or tribulations, instead of praying for the Lord to rescue our business, finances, homes, etc, that we can just pray and say, "Lord, let your Will be done in my life."

God will take whatever things away from us if we hold onto it too hard including people. He must take that idol away even though we may not perceive it as an idol. And the more we complain as we are losing it or have lost it, it just proves how much of an idol it was.

Many of us think we may be a good Christian but God is still requiring us to surrender all to HIM.

Matthew 19:16-22 And behold, there came a man up to Him, saying, Teacher, what excellent and perfectly and essentially good deed must I do to possess eternal life?17 And He said to him, Why do you ask Me about the perfectly and essentially good? There is only One Who is good [perfectly and essentially]—God. If you would enter into the Life, you must continually keep the commandments. He said to Him, What [d]sort of commandments? [Or, which ones?] And Jesus answered, You shall not kill, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not steal, You shall not bear false witness,19 Honor your father and your mother, and, You shall love your neighbor as [you do] yourself.20 The young man said, I have observed all these from my youth; what still do I lack?21 Jesus answered him, If you would be perfect [that is, [e]have that spiritual maturity which accompanies self-sacrificing character], go and sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have riches in heaven; and come, [f]be My disciple [side with My party and follow Me].22 But when the young man heard this, he went away sad (grieved and in much distress), for he had great possessions.

The young man in the above verses thought he was a good follower of God. He believed he had kept all the commandments but he knew in his spirit he was lacking something. So he asked Jesus what he had lacked? Jesus told him to sell all his possessions and give to the poor. But scripture says the young man went away sad because he had great possessions.

The issue is not possessing great possessions. The issue was that this young man's possession was not dedicated to the Kingdom of God but to himself. If his possessions were already dedicated to God, then he would not have had a problem obeying God. But since his possession was for his own kingdom, he could not fully surrender all of his heart.

We may possess many things in life. But we must understand that those possessions are HIS and we must be willing and ready at any time to use it for His purpose and His Kingdom. This is the reason why He is blessing us with great possessions. If one's heart is ready to give to His Kingdom then he/she may not have to lose everything because it was not his/her to lose it. But if we attempt to hold onto our own kingdoms then we will have to lose it all.
