We do not own the breath that comes out from our nostrols. We do not own our eyes, mouth, ears, and hands. We do not own the spiritual gifts that are granted to us. We do not own the gifts of wisdom, revelation, or discernment. We do not own our own life. If we owned our own lives, we would be able to control our own immortality. But since we do not own anything, what is there to boast of ourselves?
We do not own our children. We do not own our animals. We do not own our friends. We do not own our intelligence, We do not own our talents, and we do not own our looks. And if we do not own anything of ourselves, what do we own?
1 Peter 4:1...
As each of you has received a gift (a particular spiritual talent, a gracious divine endowment), employ it for one another as [befits] good trustees of God's many-sided grace [faithful stewards of the extremely diverse powers and gifts granted to Christians by unmerited favor].
Then what is there to boast of yourself? I see and hear people boasting of themselves because they have the gift of vision/dreams. I see and hear people boasting of themselves because they have the gift of prophescy. I see many people boast of their years in ministry. I have met many spirit filled gifted people just talk about themselves along my journey. The higher we will go, the harder will we fall if we allow pride to ambush us.
Since we do not own anything, we are but stewards to all that is given to us including ourselves which is our life. What is there then to boast? All those good things in us are from God, so let us boast of Christ in us. The only thing we own of ourselves is the ability to choose. Either to choose life or death. And even that ability is given by Grace.
Therefore, now you know that you do not own anything and it is all of God's, let us now take caution and be good stewards to all He has given us.
Galatians 6:14
14But far be it from me to glory [in anything or anyone] except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah) through Whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world!
1 Corinthians 4:2 (Amplified Bible)
2Moreover, it is [essentially] required of stewards that a man should be found faithful [proving himself worthy of trust].
Luke 12:42 (Amplified Bible)
42And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful steward, the wise man whom his master will set over those in his household service to supply them their allowance of food at the appointed time?
