Who blesses obedience and curses disobedience?

““If you fully obey the LORD your God and carefully keep all his commands that I am giving you today, the LORD your God will set you high above all the nations of the world. You will experience all these blessings if you obey the LORD your God: Your towns and your fields will be blessed. Your children and your crops will be blessed. The offspring of your herds and flocks will be blessed. Your fruit baskets and breadboards will be blessed. Wherever you go and whatever you do, you will be blessed. “The LORD will conquer your enemies when they attack you. They will attack you from one direction, but they will scatter from you in seven! “The LORD will guarantee a blessing on everything you do and will fill your storehouses with grain. The LORD your God will bless you in the land he is giving you.”
‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭28:1-8‬ ‭NLT‬‬

The condition for blessings is to be fully obedient. However to be fully obedient is to be in a state of always obeying. You must obey now, tomorrow, and in a state of constant obeying. We cannot define our obedience based on what we had obeyed yesterday. We must be aware of our spiritual condition now. Am I fully obeying in all areas now? Am I trying with all of my being or am I just thinking about it?  Am I examining the condition of my heart now and tomorrow.

If I am in a state of obedience, not just from yesterday, but continuing, then the promises of the bible are growing and blossoming. I should be able to see the growth of my fruit just as I can watch a beautiful plant growing as it came forth from the ground and grows upwards. I would be able to observe the plant, the ear, and then the fruit. We would be able to observe in faith and through the physical manifestation the growth of our blessings coming to a reality. We would be able to observe the spiritual and physical manifestation of our restoration. First, the plant, the ear, and then the fruit for harvest. There will be evidence. Moreover, the spiritual fruit of joy, love, and peace would be filling in our hearts.

If we are on the path of disobedience then we will also be able to observe the growth of our disobedient fruit. Rather than being a beautiful plant, a poisonous venomous plant would be growing. When we disobey, we do not always have to be in a constant state of disobedience. We would be able to discern and observe the fruit of disobedience which can be depression, discouragement, chaos, confusion, frustration, and so forth. With obedience, we do need to be facing and traveling a constant road of obedience. But with disobedience, we only need to turn once or disobey once and we can be off course.

Discern your plant and determine what type of plant/fruit is growing in your life. This can be for one event, season, moment, or all of our life. Which plant is growing for my health? Which plant is growing for my finances? Which plant/fruit is growing for my family? The physical manifestation or hints are there. But our stubbornness tries to force a bad fruit to turn to a good fruit. But a good tree cannot produce a bad fruit and a bad tree cannot produce a good fruit. When we have sown a bad seed, we need to turn directions by repent, submitting, yielding, confessing, and/or be willing to starting over.

"The LORD will guarantee a blessing on everything you do and will fill your storehouses with grain."

Verse 8 gives us a Guarantee of blessing. It is the promise of abundant life not only in heaven but for the now in our physical realm. Discern your situation and humble yourselves if you have too.

But if we choose to disobey and by the way, we do not have to disobey in all our areas, then that area will become cursed. Who curses it? A bad apple will begin to rot the other surrounding good apples. One area of disobedience will begin to curse all our good areas. Therefore, we must be obedient in all areas as God commands us to Fully obey.
What is one fruit and manifestation of disobedience? It is frustration. Who curses our land, blessings, finances, and health? Acts of disobedience is considered abandoning God.
““The LORD himself will send on you curses, confusion, and frustration in everything you do, until at last you are completely destroyed for doing evil and abandoning me.”
Deuteronomy 28:20 NLT
Let us all strive to fully Obey! Please read all of chapter 28 of Deuteronomy for an understanding of blessings and curses.

  1. Thanks Pastor Steve. The Lord has been reminding of two key areas: to obey and not to judge. I am grateful for your ministry. I pray a blessing of the fruit of the Spirit over your ministry and protection from the enemy in Jesus' Name, amen.
