Seeking the Will of God by Pastor Kim Yong Doo

I will speak about seeking the will of God. I will speak about God’s will, guidance, and your relationship with God. There are various ways to experience the power of God. Apostle Paul is known to us as a man who was filled with power, much knowledge, and many holy gifts. When it comes to God leading us, Apostle Paul had the most difficulties. God allowed Apostle Paul to experience many trials and error. We may experience much dilemma when it comes to being led by God as Apostle Paul had. We would think, “What should I do to know the specific and clear will of God? I want to be led by God more specifically.” When we read the bible, the bible speaks scriptures to us. God gave us words that create visions and motivation to possess. Psalm 2(EXB) If you ask me [Ask of me], I will give you the nations as your inheritance; all the people on [ ends of the] earth will be ·yours [your possession]. 9 You will rule over them with an iron rod [scepter; a symbol of royal authority; Rev. 12:5; 19:15]. You will ·break [dash] them into pieces like pottery.” “Mark 9:23 Jesus said to him, “[You say to Me,] ‘If You can?’ All things are possible for the one who believes and trusts [in Me]!” These words become very good motivation for us which can create and refresh our vision and mission when it comes to doing God’s work. When you listen to the Word of God, some kind of motivation should be stirred within you. When motivation is stirred within you, through such motivation, a calling and mission will be granted to you. A powerful calling will be created based on how much you realize and understand the Word of God. When we come to realize and understand the Word of God, such as, “God has called me! God has chosen me! I am a servant of God and I am His people!” Then God will lead us to an area in which we will not be able to be still but we will have to act or react. We call this the ‘Mission’. When we receive the calling, a mission will be created. If Abraham did not react and move after receiving his calling, there would not have been a mission in his life and the mission would not have been accomplished. Therefore, the calling and mission will be created one stage at a time as you react and move. Through the bible, God spoke and described Himself as one who is all powerful, omniscience and omnipotence and He is God of love. As we listen and read such statements and if we act accordingly, God will allow us to experience Him. God will let us encounter Him. This is how we will encounter Him. Moses had to tend sheep in the wilderness of Midian. When Zipporah continually spoke about Mt.Sinai and the darkness and clouds around it, motivation was created within Moses. Who is in that mountain? God was dwelling in that mountain. Although people hear the Word of God, motivation is not easily stirred nor created. But suddenly, within a certain situation on a certain day, motivation may be created within you. Such motivation may be created by observation or through another person. If motivation and the willingness to carry out God’s work come in agreement, then you will react and move. Moses went up to Mt Sinai. The place he had approached was a place where no one could approach.This mountain was a place people could die if they tried to climb it. Despite of the risk, Moses went ahead. Moses’ calling and mission was created because Moses had approached this place. Therefore, when we hear and listen to the Word of God, you will have to know one thing. The Grace of God has a duality. A man is suppose to die if he approaches this particular place of Mt. Sinai. This is a fixed and definite logical assumption and fact. But at the same time, there is a variable of faith which has flexibility. If you utilize proper faith and earnestly desire to encounter God, God may allow the encounter. Moses fits the heart of God. Moses went through suffering and disciplined for forty years in Egypt and then forty years in the wilderness. A total of eighty years. When we go through suffering, we will become a people who will be able to handle anything, anyone, and any situation. The suffering will make us as pure gold as suffering anneal and strengthen us. Our mental area, physical area, sould, mind and even the way we speak will become strengthened and powerful. Therefore, when you go through the suffering, you have to remember that God is annealing you. Once I went touring to a steelmaking company. To make use of the steel, they applied heat to the steel so that it would become liquid like water. Once they decide on the function and in which area to use the steel, they would place the steel in a sub zero area. When the steel was thrown into the sub zero area, it would greatly shrink. The people tested the steel until it was pressed out of shape. When the steel had passed its initial test, the steel would then be heated with thousands of degree to see how hot it could endure. In one department within this company, they would beat the steel and stretch it out. When finally the usage or function was decided, it will be produced and shipped to many places and purposes such as for a car steel sheet, a tank cover, an armored motorcar, hbm for a building of the bridge. The usage and function would be determined by the lab in the steel company. People test the things in which we use, then how much more will God handle us whom God has called to use for His work? First, as the people of God, we need to go to heaven. You do not just go to heaven by yourself but you must preach the gospel and powerfully encourage someone to go to heaven together. You can also call this process a mission. A person needs to receive grace to become a person with a mission. From the outer appearance of the Word of God, it may look like we will die if we approach the mountain too closely. But if we look at the inside, God is telling us, “Come closer to me. Enter into the spiritual realm.” God told us that we have the keys of kingdom of God. The bible said, “the kingdom of heaven suffers violent assault, and violent men seize it by force” If you properly utilize such a statement of God, motivation will be created within you. When such motivation is created and if you react to it, the power of God will be granted to you. You will become a person with God’s power. From the book of Genesis to the book of Revelation, the Word of God said, He will grant us power, holy gifts and show us the great and mighty things in which we do not know. The promises that are related to the power of God are written in the bible more than thirty thousand times. God has promised us. But, there are people who have received the promises and people who did has not. When you read the bible, there will be Words that may powerfully penetrate into your hearts. You must possess those Words and let it become reality. If not, those Words will only become like a pie in the sky. When we look at the characters in the bible, we will know how they had figured out the will of God and how they had carried out the will of God. Also, we will know their outcome in the end. Therefore, we are able to be led by God as we observe their stories. This is an advantage we can obtain. Whenever I read the stories of the bible, I feel like layers of scales are removed. “Oh, God led Moses in this way. Oh, God led Apostle Paul that way.” How has God led His own people? How God has worked with the people whom He had chosen? We will be able to partially know through the bible. In reality, the definite way of us being led by God is written in the bible. When it comes to ourselves, we will need to graft ourselves as the characters of the bible. How will God lead us now after we have been grafted in as the characters of the bible? The bible has written this all down already. It has been a long time since God had been leading us and It will take a long time for God to lead us in the future. For the first twenty years of my ministry (he’s been in the ministry for about 30 years), I thought God had truly led my ministry. However, I think I was not properly led by God in most substantial parts. There is God’s plan and intention with me, but I did not know that. Can I simply preach the Word and simply pray? Not so. We need to be led more specifically and correctly by God. It takes a long time for a people to truly realize this. Even if you have failed, made mistakes, suffered from some kind of sickness, and have misjudged in some things, God will not waste the time but will utilize it. Apostle Paul had much knowledge and much power and authority. But his core was, “For I decided that while I was with you I would forget everything except Jesus Christ, the one who was crucified. 3 I came to you in weakness—timid and trembling” (1 Corinthians 2:2) When we pray, we will connect with the power of God. We will begin to know the love of the cross and power. We will begin to experience the power of God. When it comes to the Word of God, there are Logos and Rhema. Most of us have learn a lot about Logos through disciple classes and reading. But when it comes to Rhema, people are not easily restored which is the area of contacting the power of God. The area of revelation. How does God lead us? Most common churches ignore the areas of Rhema. Some even considers the church that are Rhema oriented. These churches only talk about Logos, the written Word of God. The bible has been degraded as only a text book. After all, we spend a great amount of time just to find out the will of God. We seek and desire to know the will of God as we move to and fro. Although the spiritual steps and the motivation are important, the more important matter is, how is your relationship with God? In what kind of relationship are you with God? God’s power will manifest within the proper relationship with God. It is more important to be in a proper and right relationship with God than just obtaining the motivation. The conclusion of Apostle Paul was to be within a proper relationship with God. The key to experiencing the power of God was disclosed. When it comes to the work of God, God will lead us with some kind of method and procedure. We may want to have our own plan and dream but this will not work with God. We cannot have our own dream. In reality, God has to grant us His dream. God has to grant us His vision. The most important matter is having a right and proper relationship with God. God created us. We call Him, Father. We are sons of God. The relationship with God/Jesus is very precious because Jesus saved us. Within such relationship, we will love Him more, we will become faithful, we will fervently pray and we will learn to depend on God. We will learn to wait on God with expectation. In order for us to know the will and leading of God, I finally realized that I did not have to overly wander about. I later realized how unprofitable to spend a long time in certain areas of my life. God’s will and lead is important. It is important to desire on being led by God. But because of that, do not spend too much time in that when you have things to carry out in other areas. After the relationship with God has been restored, you must personally confront and go through the matters in your daily lives. When you confront and go through matters in your daily lives, you will begin to realize the will of God. As you go through the scenes, you will be led by God within the scenes. Rather than just praying and doing nothing but only asking the will of God and desiring to be led by God, it is better that you confront and go through the daily issues within the scenes. Apostle Paul was like that. He entrusted all to the Lord and he carried out the work. As you go into the scenes and confront issues within your lives, you will know the meaning of the gospel of the cross. You will only want to witness Jesus who was crucified on the cross. Therefore, Apostle Paul manifested power. Do not excessively look for the method. Do not seek some kind of special way. In order to find the will and lead of God, do not spend a lot of time without facing, confronting, and going through your daily events. Go into the scenes of life and encounter the issues. Then you will find the lead and the will of God. There may be some unorganized inner areas within you. There may be unrestored things within your thoughts. Your faith may not overcome your current situation and circumstance. You must be healed and restored from the inner wound. Do not waste your time as you only think about the hurt and wound of the inner areas within you. Just confront and go through your daily scene even if you have hurt and wound. There is no people without hurt and wound. Do not stop yourselves from doing other things because of your hurt and wound. Do not stop youself from doing other things just because you know that there are evil spirits that are hidden within you. After all, you must jump into the daily scenes. You must do and face what you have to do every day. When you face the daily issues, you will realize and feel your weakness. When your shortcomings are revealed, you must pray more before God. Please know that God has more expectation from you and I as He leads us. In the case of Abraham, when the calling and mission was granted to him, he moved south as he called the name of Jehovah. Abraham moved tents and called the name of Jehovah as he moved and as God led him. If Abraham did not move, he could not have received the will and lead of God. In the process of moving forward, God will let us experience the power of God. God tells us, “You are My sons and daughters” When the relationship with God is restored, the healing and power of God will manifest. Please hold onto this Word of God and pray.
