Jesus had wine from water. In the physical, many Christians see
this as an act of Jesus making wine from water. To the carnal nature, it
will only be about one's excuse to drink alcohol. However, to the
spiritual, there are deeper meaning?
Water represents
the Word of God. When Moses struck the rock, water gushed out. What did
the rock represent? The rock represents Christ. From Christ comes the
water. He is the Word and thus from HIM is the Word. He is the Word. In
the wilderness, God's people drank from the rock. In our journey as
Christians and as we are in our wildernesses, we must seek the Rock for
from the Rock will come life of living water.
Exodus 17:6
(AMP) Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock at [Mount]
Horeb; and you shall strike the rock, and water shall come out of it,
that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders
of Israel.
1 Corinthians 10:2-5 They
were all baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea. 3 They all ate
the same spiritual food 4 and drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them, and that rock was Christ. 5 Nevertheless, God was not pleased with most of them; their bodies were scattered in the wilderness.
Many
Christians can be walking in their journey. They are hopefully being
fed by the Word of God. They should be drinking from HIM. He is the
Rock. But verse 5, "Nevertheless, God was not pleased with most of them;
their bodies were scattered in the wilderness." We can have spiritual
experiences. We may even hear God. We can be learning and feeding from
God. But just like the OT saints, many today continue to live their
lives in disobedience and rebellion. It is more sad because many are
deceived and do not know it. And just as before, many today have been
and are being judged as their bodies are scattered in the wilderness of
life.
The Law was given to the OT saints. Then the Word
came in the flesh. The Word walked in the flesh and HE had come to die
for the sins of men. The Word or Jesus made a promise that when He
leave, He would send us a helper or comforter. Jesus had to leave for it
would be more profitable and expedient for us.
John 16:7
(AMP) However, I am telling you nothing but the truth when I say it is
profitable (good, expedient, advantageous) for you that I go away.
Because if I do not go away, the Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Advocate,
Intercessor, Strengthener, Standby) will not come to you [into close
fellowship with you]; but if I go away, I will send Him to you [to be in
close fellowship with you].
So Jesus had turned the
water into wine. It was the New Wine. This was not your alcoholic wine
from a liquor store. This new wine was made from water supernaturally.
There were six water pots. Even at 20 gallons, this would make 120
gallons of wine. Jesus would not make alcoholic wine of 120 gallons so
that people would mock themselves. Have you ever attended a wedding that
served 120 gallons of wine?
John 2:1
(AMP) On the third day there was a wedding at Cana of Galilee, and the
mother of Jesus was there.2 Jesus also was invited with His disciples to
the wedding.3 And when the wine was all gone, the mother of Jesus said
to Him, They have no more wine!4 Jesus said to her, [[a]Dear] woman,
what is that to you and to Me? [What do we have in common? Leave it to
Me.] My time (hour to act) has not yet come.5 His mother said to the
servants, Whatever He says to you, do it.6 Now there were six waterpots of stone standing there, as the Jewish custom of purification (ceremonial
washing) demanded, holding twenty to thirty gallons apiece.7 Jesus said
to them, Fill the water pots with water. So they filled them up to the
brim. 8 Then He said to them, Draw some out now and take it to the
manager of the feast [to the one presiding, the superintendent of the
banquet]. So they took him some.9 And when the manager tasted the water
just now turned into wine, not knowing where it came from—though the
servants who had drawn the water knew—he called the bridegroom
This
represents a wedding. The guest would use the six water pots to wash
themselves ceremonially. They had washed themselves with water. But now
Jesus was here. He would turn the water to New Wine. The New Wine is
HIM.? The New Wine is the Holy Spirit. The New Wine is the New Covenant.
Now, the Holy Spirit also representing the New Wine would baptize us
with His Fire to cleanse us supernaturally to prepare us for the
wedding. The pots have been filled to the brim. We are to draw deep into
HIM. He is the ultimate bridegroom.
Isaiah 55:1
"Ho! Everyone who thirsts, Come to the waters; And you who have no
money, Come, buy and eat. Yes, come, buy wine and milk Without money and
without price.
The above verse says to come buy wine.
It says to come buy wine and milk without money. How can one buy
something without money? If one truly desires to follow Jesus, one must
take up his/her cross and deny him/herself and the things of the world.
One can read John 2 and discern their right to drink alcoholic wine or
one can discern it in the spirit for life to know grace is free but it
will cost us everything. We must not only deny ourselves but we must
deny the world and the lust of the world.
May His Light flood your hearts so that you may discern His Will for your lives.
